Yet another in the seemingly-endless series of appetizer recipes that I plan to make for the Christmas season.  This one is actually for here and not for taking to my parents’ house.  My brother, Stacey, is sensitive to seafood so I wouldn’t want to take the chance of him accidentally eating this or even picking up the wrong serving spoon.

Besides, I really, really, really like this dip.  And sometimes I’m selfish.

Several years ago, Michael surprised me with a weekend getaway to a lakeside cabin for our anniversary.  The kids stayed with grandparents.  It was a great, relaxing trip.  The only downside was that it was so remote that there really weren’t any restaurants close by, so we (I) had to cook all the meals.  When we went into the small town to get groceries, I found myself buying a few items that I didn’t ordinarily buy because I was craving some kind of dip.  I didn’t know what kind.  I just knew I wanted something.

This is the recipe I came up with.  Creamy, spicy, cheesy, seafoody.  Yes, it’s a word!  I just wrote it, didn’t I?

Hot Crab and Shrimp Dip

  • 1 pound of Mexican Velveeta, cubed
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½  pound cooked and peeled shrimp
  • ½  pound cooked crabmeat

Preheat oven to 350º.

In a medium baking dish, mix cheese, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, shrimp and crabmeat.   Bake in the preheated oven 45 minutes, or until bubbly and lightly browned.  Serve with crackers.

Yeah, that’s it.  I said I was craving something.  I didn’t say I made the most incredible gourmet food in existence.

But this stuff is good.

Well Duh #1:  You can use fresh, frozen, or canned seafood.  I had to use canned because that was all they had in the little grocery store.  I have since made it with fresh and frozen.  You will need to cook the seafood first!!!

Well Duh #2:  I like to serve this dip with Triscuits, but you can use whatever floats your boat.

Well Duh #3:  In our local stores, this “processed cheese product” is now labeled “Velveeta Jalapeno Cheese.”  Same stuff.

If you’re a seafood fan, you really should try this one!  It’s very savory and very yummy!
